Who is Sycamore & Heather?

Updated: Feb 24

Hi, I'm Heather. Owner and founder of Sycamore and Heather.

I grew up on the sycamore lined streets of Sugarhouse, Utah. If you've never been, it's one of the quaintest little cities nestled along the foothills of the Salt Lake valley. Quiet, tree-lined streets that sit right along the benches of the Wasatch mountains, just outside the hustle of downtown Salt Lake City.

I've always loved sycamore trees. There's something so calming about standing beneath one. Biblically, sycamores are depicted as symbols of restoration and humility... the presence of divine guidance. I personally admire how gracefully they age, seemingly becoming more beautiful with time. To me they represent grace, strength and safety.

One might describe the heart of the home in a similar way. I often refer to my own home as a safe haven from the world. The place where our children can gather and escape the noise and chaos of the outside world. The place where they can come and rest. And that's where the real magic happens... when you create a place that lovingly invites you in. A home where you feel the calm and comfort wrapping you in a warm hug and giving you the permission to leave everything else at the door.

Each season on Michigan Avenue felt idyllic and enchanting. Almost fairytale like. In spring, the large leaves began to bloom, signaling the arrival of spring after a long, cold winter. The big leaves offered the perfect shady spot to enjoy lemonade and lay in the grass during hot summer days. In fall, the leaves transformed into stunning shades of red, orange, and yellow. Sycamores are known for clinging to their leaves, holding on to the last remnants of summer until the very last possible moment. When the leaves finally fell, I loved taking long walks through the neighborhood shuffling my feet through the piles of leaves and crunching every leaf under my feet. Winter would return soon. I'm not a huge fan of the cold, but winter on the avenue was truly magical. Every home on our street had a sycamore tree out front, forming beautiful snow-covered tree tunnels throughout the neighborhood. Growing up, it felt like I lived in a real-life snow globe. Under that sycamore tree some of the most vivid memories of my childhood took place.

Our home had a sycamore tree with lavender and heather growing beneath it. Heather, yep... the flower that is my namesake. I grew up under the sycamore tree (metaphorically and literally). Thus, it was only fitting... Sycamore and Heather was born.
